Pushkin House, the Institute of Russian Literature, is a research institute in Saint Petersburg, part of a network of institutions affiliated with the Russian Academy of Sciences. It began in December 1905 as the main center for Alexander Pushkin studies in Imperial Russia. A purpose-built Neoclassical building was planned but was not realized for lack of funds.
In 1927 the institute moved from the Academy of Sciences building, the Kunstkamera, to the Customs House. The Customs House is a neo-Palladian building designed by Giovanni Francesco Lucchini and built from 1829 to 1832, near the Strelka.
The institute stayed open during the Siege of Leningrad, though most staff and manuscripts were evacuated. Its collections include manuscripts from the 13th century onward, portraits, personal documents and rare music recordings. It has nine departments, including a Museum of Literature.
