The Luz building of the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo was designed by Ramos de Azevedo, with Domiciano Rossi as main collaborator, for the Government of the State of São Paulo. The infobox gives 1905 as the founding year, not a construction date. The text says construction began in 1897, it was partially inaugurated in 1900 and it was never completed.

The style is described as Italian eclecticism, with a monumental character, using Riga pine and French ceramics. It has two internal courtyards, a central lobby and an uncompleted dome. Paulo Mendes da Rocha led the 1993 to 1998 renovation, with Weliton Ricoy Torres and Eduardo Argenton Colonelli, adapting it for international exhibitions.

Pinacoteca Estação, also by Ramos de Azevedo and restored by Haron Cohen, opened in 1914. Pina Contemporânea, by Arquitetos Associados, opened on March 4, 2023. APAC has managed the museum since 2006. Hours and tickets are not listed.
