Petco Park is the San Diego Padres' ballpark, designed by Populous, then HOK Sport, and Antoine Predock. The City of San Diego owns 70 percent and the Padres 30 percent. Groundbreaking was May 3, 2000, and it opened April 8, 2004, at a cost of $450 million. The article names no formal style. It avoids retro red brick and evokes San Diego's sandy cliffs, beaches and white sails.

The exterior is Indian sandstone and stucco, with exposed steel painted white. Capacity is 39,860. The restored Western Metal Supply Co. building forms the left-field foul pole and holds the team store, suites and a restaurant. Batters face north toward the bay and Balboa Park.

Gallagher Square, a grassy berm, serves as a free park when no game is played. It won a San Diego Union-Tribune Orchid Award in 2006.
