Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial stands at Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island, Ohio, about five miles from the Canadian border. Architects Joseph H. Freelander and A. D. Seymour won an international competition for the design. A multi-state commission built it from 1912 to 1915, and it was dedicated on July 31, 1931.

The Doric column is 352 feet (107 meters) tall. The article calls it the world's tallest Doric column. Visitors pay admission and ride an elevator with a National Park Ranger to the observation deck, reached after climbing 37 steps. Views reach Lake Erie, Ohio, Michigan and Ontario.

The memorial marks those who fought in the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812 and lasting peace among Britain, Canada and the United States. It became a National Monument on June 2, 1936, and a National Memorial in 1972.
