Perlan is a glass-domed building on top of six hot water tanks on Öskjuhlíð hill in Reykjavík. The article credits the structural engineer Jón Búi Guðlaugsson with the design and names no architect. The first tank was built in 1939, five more followed over the next two decades, and all were rebuilt in the late 1980s. Perlan opened on June 21, 1991. Davíð Oddsson, then mayor, pushed it forward.

Each tank holds up to 5 million liters. The building sits 61 meters (200 feet) above sea level. It holds a planetarium, a glacier exhibit and an ice cave of about 400 tons of ice, snow and ash that is 100 meters long. A 360-degree observation deck and a revolving restaurant crown it.

The article says it is open to the public but gives no hours or ticket prices.
