The Penang Bridge crosses the Penang Strait and links Perai with Gelugor in Malaysia. Howard Needles & Tammen and Bergendoff Intl. Inc. SA/JK (SEA) designed it, with the latter as consulting engineer. PLUS Expressways holds the concession and maintains it. Construction began in 1982, and the bridge was inaugurated on September 14, 1985.

The total length is 8.4 miles (13.5 kilometers), and the main span is 837 feet (255 meters), held up by four towers 333 feet (101.5 meters) tall. The article lists concrete girders and describes the main span as cable-stayed.

It is a dual carriageway toll bridge with three lanes in each direction and a speed limit of 43 to 50 miles per hour (70 to 80 kilometers per hour). Safety features include an SOS lay-by, CCTV and variable message signs.
