Palazzo Zuccari stands at Via Gregoriana 28 in Rome, where Via Sistina and Via Gregoriana meet. The painter Federico Zuccari bought the land in 1590 and designed the palace as a sumptuous home that would show his importance and skill. It had three parts: a studio on the piazza, a residence on Via Sistina and a garden entered from Via Gregoriana.
Three mascarons on Via Gregoriana give it the nickname "House of Monsters." Zuccari died in 1609, and the house passed to the Accademia di San Luca. Girolamo Rainaldi then finished the work.
Queen Marie Casimire Louise lived there from 1702 and ran a small private theater. Since 1912 the palace has housed the Bibliotheca Hertziana.
