Osogovo Monastery stands on Osogovo Mountain, 2,700 feet (825 meters) above sea level, near Kriva Palanka in North Macedonia. It was founded in the mid-twelfth century by Teodor of Ovče Pole, who became its first abbot. No remains of the original monastery survive.
The larger church, Saint Joachim of Osogovo, was built in 1851 by Andrey Damyanov. It has three naves and twelve cupolas, which represent the twelve apostles. The smaller church of the Holy Mother of God was founded in the twelfth century and rebuilt in the fourteenth. The grounds also have a bell tower, dormitories and a residence for the head of the Macedonian Orthodox Church.
The monastery was severely damaged in 1690 during the Austro-Ottoman War. It is open to the public and hosts an art colony and an architecture school each summer.
