One Madison stands at 23 East 22nd Street, across from Madison Square Park in the Flatiron District. CetraRuddy designed the exterior and tower. Yabu Pushelberg did the new lobby and amenity interiors, and Rem Koolhaas had designed the interiors of the originally planned amenities. Construction began in 2006, it topped out in 2010, and the article gives 2013 for completion. By 2013 a consortium of creditors owned it.
The tower is 621 ft (189 m) tall with 60 stories, a height-to-width ratio of 12 to 1. It uses high-performance concrete shear walls and tuned liquid dampers in reinforced concrete water tanks. It is partly cantilevered over an existing three-story building. Amenities include a 50 ft lap pool and a screening room. A terracotta and glass companion building was designed by BKSK.
It won a 2014 Architizer A+ Jury Award. Rupert Murdoch bought the penthouse in 2014 for $57.3 million.
