L'Oceanogràfic in Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences, in the Garden of the Turia, was designed by Félix Candela, with structural engineers Alberto Domingo and Carlos Lázaro. Avanqua Oceanogràfic SL is the client. Design work began in 1997, and it opened on February 14, 2003. The article names no overall style, but compares the hyperbolic paraboloid roofs to Candela's Los Manantiales restaurant in Mexico City.
The structure uses steel-fiber reinforced concrete in thin shells. The site covers 110,000 square meters, with 42,000,000 liters of water in total, a 7,000,000-liter largest tank and a 26,000,000-liter dolphinarium.
Nine two-tiered underwater towers hold about 45,000 animals from about 500 species. Mangroves, marshland and a garden of more than 80 plant species complete the park. Seawater comes from La Malva-Rosa beach.
