Norham Castle lies on the south bank of the River Tweed in Northumberland, England, on the Scottish border. Ranulf Flambard, Bishop of Durham, ordered its construction in 1121 to protect the bishopric's northern property. After damage in 1138, Hugh de Puiset, Bishop of Durham, had it rebuilt, probably under Richard of Wolviston, the bishop's architect.

Its features include an inner ward on a mound, an outer ward, a West Gate and a keep 88 feet high. The castle endured many sieges, including Robert the Bruce's in 1318 and James IV's in 1513.

Today it is a Grade I listed scheduled ancient monument. English Heritage cares for it, and it is open to visitors.
