The New Castle of Manzanares el Real was built as a residence for the House of Mendoza, with construction starting in 1475. The text says Juan Guas finished it under his direction, and Íñigo López de Mendoza, the 2nd Duke of the Infantado, completed it after his father's death. The new castle is granite, on a quadrangular plan with four circular towers and one main hexagonal tower.
The text describes Isabelline Gothic ornamentation, a Gothic gallery and flamboyant tracery on the southern wall walk. A barbican has loopholes and a carved cross of the Holy Sepulchre.
The residential role lasted about a century, and the castle ceased to be inhabited after 1566. It was declared a Monumento Histórico-Artístico in 1931. The Community of Madrid rents it from the Duchy of the Infantado and runs it as a tourist attraction. The article gives no hours.
