The Neues Museum stands on Museum Island in Berlin. Friedrich August Stüler, a student of Karl Friedrich Schinkel, designed it for King Frederick William IV of Prussia. Building began in 1841 under a committee and ran from 1843 to 1855. The article describes the style as Neoclassical and Renaissance Revival.
It was Prussia's first monumental building to use industrial techniques throughout, including iron constructions. Its foundations rest on 2,344 wooden piles driven by a steam engine. Inside are two courtyards, one Greek and one Egyptian, and a central main stairway.
David Chipperfield led a reconstruction of the museum from 1999 to 2009. It reopened to the public on October 16, 2009, after ten years of work.
