NATO's headquarters stands on Boulevard Léopold III in Haren, in the City of Brussels. An international consortium led by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill designed it, including Jo Palma. NATO owns and operates it, and it houses about 3,800 staff. A replacement for the temporary 1967 building was decided at the 1999 Washington Summit. Construction started in 2010 and ended in summer 2016. It was dedicated on May 25, 2017.
The cost grew from €750 million to about €1.1 billion. The floor space is 250,000 square meters (2.7 million sq ft). The designers describe several interlocking fingers, a three-dimensional picture of a complex decision-making body.
A NATO Star sculpture stands in the court of honor, and flags of member states line the entrance. The article names no style.
