The National September 11 Memorial and Museum stands on the former World Trade Center site. Michael Arad of Handel Architects and Peter Walker and Partners designed the memorial, chosen from 5,201 entries. Davis Brody Bond designed the museum, and Snøhetta and AAI Architects designed its entrance pavilion, which the article calls deconstructivist.

Construction began on March 13, 2006. Two pools, each about 1 acre (4,000 m²), occupy the Twin Towers' footprints, and swamp white oaks fill the plaza. The article gives the tree count as more than 400 in one place and 243 plus eight in another. The museum sits about 70 feet (21 m) below ground.

The memorial opened on September 12, 2011, and the museum on May 21, 2014. Museum admission was $36 at the time of the article, and entry is waived for victims' families.
