The National Museum of Prehistory in Taitung City was designed by the American architect Michael Graves. Trial operations began on July 10, 2001, and it officially opened on August 17, 2002. The article names no client, style or materials. Renovation began on May 31, 2020.

The museum sits on a 10-hectare (100,000 m²) site. Sections include Sun Square, Mountain Square, a Scenic Garden, a Children's Play Area, a maze, a water fountain show and a Sightseeing Hill. Exhibits cover the natural history, prehistory and indigenous peoples of Taiwan, plus artifacts from the Beinan site.

A National Taiwan University team excavated Beinan over ten years and found more than 1,500 burials. The article calls it the most important mid-Neolithic site in Taiwan. It is a short walk from Kangle Station. The article gives no hours.
