The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat, Old Cairo, was designed by El-Ghazali Kaseba, and the Government of Egypt owns it. The article gives no style, dimensions or materials. The museum partially opened in 2017 and was officially inaugurated on April 3, 2021, when 22 mummies were moved from the Egyptian Museum in an event called the Pharaohs' Golden Parade. UNESCO provided technical help.
It holds about 50,000 artifacts in chronological and thematic areas, including the Gallery of Royal Mummies. Notable pieces include the Nazlet Khater Skeleton and the coffin of Sennedjem. An ancient dye house on the site is described as the only surviving evidence of Cairo's dye houses. The museum sits beside Ain el-Sera Lake, developed as a tourist site in 2022.
The introduction says 22 mummies were moved, including 18 kings and four queens, while the Royal Mummies hall section says 20, with two queens.
