National Gallery Singapore occupies two national monuments in the Civic District, the former Supreme Court of 1939 and the former City Hall of 1929. Studio Milou Singapore and CPG Consultants were appointed in May 2008. Their concept links the two buildings with a draped canopy on tree-like columns. The ministry for information, communications and the arts oversaw the project, and the article names no owner.

Construction began in January 2011 and the gallery opened on November 24, 2015. The combined floor area is 690,000 square feet (64,000 m²), and the cost was about S$532 million. A new basement level and bridges join the old buildings.

It holds over 9,000 works of Singaporean and Southeast Asian art. City Hall is where Lord Mountbatten accepted the Japanese surrender in 1945. Citizens and permanent residents enter free; the article gives no hours.
