The National D-Day Memorial stands on more than 50 acres (20 hectares) in Bedford, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Byron Dickson designed it. Richard Pumphrey sculpted the portrait busts commissioned in 2010. President George W. Bush spoke at the dedication on June 6, 2001, before about 15,000 people. The article names no architect.

The Overlord Arch is 44 feet 6 inches (13.56 meters) tall and bears the date June 6, 1944. Three plazas hold a pool, sculptures and 12 Allied flags. Necrology walls list the names of 4,427 Allied soldiers who died in the invasion. A statue of Eisenhower is surrounded by busts of his commanders.

Bedford lost 19 of the 34 men of Company A, 116th Infantry, on D-Day, and Congress sited the memorial there. It cost about $25 million.
