The Museum of Steel, or Museo del Acero, stands in Fundidora Park in Monterrey, on the site of a former steel plant. The Oficina de Arquitectura worked with Grimshaw Architects, and AldrichPears Associates designed the exhibits. The article names no client and no style. It gives no construction dates and gives fall 2007 as the opening.
The museum is built in and around Horno No. 3, a decommissioned blast furnace 230 feet (70 m) tall. The furnace was restored and is the city's most recognizable landmark on the skyline. The design kept the historical character of the site. Galleries include the Gallery of History, the Gallery of Steel, the Blast Furnace Show and the Cast Hall.
The Fundidora plant ran for about 80 years and closed in the mid-1980s. It had been important to the economic and social life of Monterrey. The article calls the museum one of the largest ever created in Mexico. It gives no hours.
