The Museum of Military History in Vienna's Arsenal complex was designed by Theophil Hansen for Emperor Franz Joseph I. Construction began on April 15, 1850 and finished on May 8, 1856. The infobox's 1869 matches the opening as the k.k. Hofwaffenmuseum, and the text says it was inaugurated as the k.u.k. Heeresmuseum in 1891.

The article describes a Historicist style modeled on the Venetian Arsenal, with Byzantine and Gothic elements. It uses two-tone brick, terracotta, wrought iron, natural stone and sandstone sculptures. It is 771 feet (235 m) long and 141 feet (43 m) high.

It closed at the start of World War I, reopened in 1921, was bombed in 1944 and reopened in 1955 as the Heeresgeschichtliches Museum. It is the leading museum of the Austrian Armed Forces. It is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, with holiday closures, and free on the first Sunday of each month.
