The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia stands on George Street in The Rocks, on the west side of Circular Quay. William Henry Withers designed the Maritime Services Board building of about 1937 to 1939, in a Stripped Classical style with Art Deco ornament. Andrew Andersons led the 1990 conversion, and Sam Marshall designed the 2010 to 2012 expansion. The state government gave the building to the museum.

The original is six storeys of orange-brown sandstone with a pink granite base and a clock tower. The new wing adds about 4,500 square meters in overlapping white, black and brown boxes, which Marshall linked to Donald Judd. The museum opened in 1991 and reopened in 2012. The expansion cost A$58 million.

Its collection has about 4,500 works. It charged a $20 fee from January 31, 2025, with exceptions for students and children. The article gives no hours.
