The Museo dell'Opera del Duomo stands at Piazza del Duomo 9 in Florence, opposite the east end of the Duomo. It was established in 1891, and the article says it houses one of the world's most important collections of sculpture. It holds originals of works made for Florence Cathedral, the adjacent Baptistery and Giotto's campanile. The article names no architect, client or style for the building.
Between 2009 and 2015, the museum expanded into the adjacent old Teatro Nuovo. Large display frameworks there copy the outline of the cathedral's old facade, with the original sculptures placed at their intended positions. Replicas now stand on the cathedral and Baptistery.
Key holdings include all three original bronze Baptistery doors by Andrea Pisano and Lorenzo Ghiberti, the two cantorias by Luca della Robbia and Donatello, Donatello's Penitent Magdalene and Michelangelo's Deposition. The director has been Fr. Timothy Verdon since 2011.
