Murcia Cathedral, the Cathedral Church of Saint Mary, stands on the site of the former Great Mosque, which King Jaime I consecrated to the Virgin Mary after the revolt of 1264 to 1266. The article says foundation work began in 1385, the first stone was laid in 1388, and the cathedral was finished in October 1467, though the infobox gives different dates. The interior is mainly Gothic, with three naves, an apse and 23 chapels.
Jaume Bort i Meliá designed the Baroque facade. The bell tower was built from 1521 to 1791 and stands 295 feet (90 m) tall. The article calls it the tallest campanile in Spain. It mixes Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Neoclassical elements, and the cupola is by Ventura Rodríguez. The tower holds 25 bells, each with its own name.
Alfonso X's heart and entrails are buried under the main altar. A fire in 1854 destroyed the high altar and choir stalls.
