Terminal 2 at Mumbai's airport was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, with Larsen & Toubro as contractor. Mumbai International Airport Limited operates the airport. The old Terminal 2A was demolished in January 2009, and the new terminal was inaugurated in January 2014. International flights began on February 12, 2014 and domestic flights on January 9, 2015. It cost about 98 billion rupees.

The terminal is X-shaped, with two piers extending south from a central processing building. A 42-meter-high roof uses over 20,000 metric tons of steel and covers 30 acres. Total floor area is 450,000 square meters.

It was designed for 40 million passengers a year. It has 192 check-in counters and a 5,000-car multilevel car park.
