The MIT Media Lab occupies two buildings on the MIT campus in Cambridge. The lab was founded in 1985 and first housed in the Wiesner Building, E15, designed by I. M. Pei. Construction dates for E15 are not given. In 2009 it expanded into a new building, E14, designed by Fumihiko Maki, with Leers Weinzapfel Associates of Boston as local architect of record. The article names no style.
E14 has predominantly glass walls and long lines of sight through the building. They are meant to make ongoing research visible and encourage collaboration. The two buildings also host the List Visual Arts Center, MIT's Program in Art, Culture and Technology and the Program in Comparative Media Studies.
The lab belongs to MIT's School of Architecture and Planning. In 2019 its director resigned amid scrutiny over donations from Jeffrey Epstein. The article gives no hours.
