The Minneapolis Central Library at 300 Nicollet Mall was designed by César Pelli with the Minneapolis firm Architectural Alliance. Minneapolis voters approved $140 million for it on November 7, 2000, and it opened on May 20, 2006. A 1961 library, a four-story glass and steel building, had stood on the site. The article names no style or materials for the new building.

The library has 353,000 square feet (32,800 m²) and two underground parking levels. A daylit atrium covers 8,140 square feet, and an 18,560-square-foot green roof forms a roof garden. It has more than 300 public computers and a collection of more than 2.4 million items.

The Minneapolis Public Library joined the Hennepin County Library system in 2008, and Central is now its largest library. A planned rooftop planetarium was built instead in the Bell Museum. The article gives no hours.
