Mikimoto Ginza 2 is a tower at 2-4-12 Ginza in Tokyo, designed by Toyo Ito for the Mikimoto pearl company. It was completed around 2004 and 2005. It has nine floors above ground and one basement, on a rectangular plan about 17 meters (56 feet) wide and 14 meters (46 feet) deep.
The lower levels hold Mikimoto's shop and offices, and the upper floors are rented as offices. There are no columns inside. Four thin walls form a tube. Each wall is a sandwich of concrete poured between two steel plates 200 millimeters apart, with plates 6 to 12 millimeters thick.
The sandwich panels were made in a factory, raised on site, welded together and then filled with concrete. The steel plates also served as formwork. The facade has irregular, crystal-like openings, made by dividing each panel into seven triangles. The seams were sanded and the plates painted for a flat, seamless surface.
