The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin was designed by Peter Eisenman and Buro Happold, after a design competition in 1994. The article names no client, but a federal foundation was created to run it after the Bundestag's decision of June 25, 1999. Construction began on April 1, 2003, and finished on December 15, 2004. It was dedicated on May 10, 2005.
The article names no style. It is concrete: 2,711 stelae, each 7.8 feet (2.38 m) long and 3.1 feet (0.95 m) wide, with heights from 8 inches to 15.4 feet (0.2 to 4.7 m), on a site of 1.9 hectares (4.7 acres).
Construction halted in October 2003 over the Degussa controversy and resumed on November 13. It is a public memorial with an underground information center and drew over 3.5 million visitors in its first year. The article gives no hours.
