Melbourne Museum stands in the Carlton Gardens beside the Royal Exhibition Building. Denton Corker Marshall designed it, and the article calls it a post-modernist building. Baulderstone Hornibrook managed construction. The Government of Victoria opened it on behalf of Museums Victoria, which runs it. Premier Steve Bracks opened it on October 21, 2000. The article gives 2001 as the completion year and no materials.

Two sloping canopies mark the central entrance, and the firm's sticks and blades appear throughout. An underground car park links it to the Royal Exhibition Building. Inside is a Forest Gallery. The State Collections exceed 17 million items.

The museum has galleries from Dinosaur Walk to Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, and an IMAX cinema with 461 seats beneath it. It had 1,428,238 visitors in 2010–2011. The article gives no hours or prices.
