Matsue Castle in Shimane Prefecture was built by Horio Yoshiharu, the first daimyō of the Matsue Domain. The infobox and text both give 1607 to 1611, though the text says it was built over 5 years, which does not fit that span of about four. The article names no architect.
The article describes a watchtower-style keep reminiscent of the Momoyama style. The keep is wood, mostly painted black, with stone walls. It is 98 feet (30 m) tall, with five stories outside and six levels inside.
The Kyōgoku clan took it in 1633 and the Matsudaira clan in 1637. Most buildings were dismantled in 1875. The Matsudaira donated the castle to the city in 1927, the keep was renovated from 1950 to 1955, several turrets were rebuilt in 2001, and the keep was designated a national treasure in 2015. The City of Matsue owns it. The article gives no hours.
