Masdar City near Abu Dhabi is a planned sustainable city built by Masdar, a subsidiary of the state-owned Mubadala Investment Company. Foster and Partners designed the six first-phase buildings, with Gerard Evenden as lead architect, and the article does not name the overall master architect. It was launched in 2006. Construction began in February 2008, and the first six buildings were occupied in October 2010. The budget was $22 billion. The article names no style.
The city covers 6 square kilometers and was designed for 45,000 to 50,000 residents. By 2023 about 15,000 people lived and worked there. Wind towers aid ventilation, streets are narrow, and combustion vehicles are banned. Walls use terracotta with arabesque patterns, and one park is made of recycled shipping containers.
The residences are rated LEED Platinum. A 10 MW solar plant supplies power. A 2030 completion date was still projected as of 2020.
