The Marx-Engels Forum is a public park in Berlin with a statue of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. It lies on the eastern bank of the Spree, opposite the Rotes Rathaus, between Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, Spandauer Straße and Rathausstraße. East German authorities set up plans in 1977 and appointed Ludwig Engelhardt as project director. It was inaugurated on April 4, 1986.
The bronze sculpture is larger than life-size. Marx sits and Engels stands on a small platform, and both are at eye level and accessible to visitors. A large circular paved area is at the center, in a rectangular wooded setting.
A wall behind the statues carries reliefs about the history of the German socialist movement. Locals nicknamed the pair The Pensioners. After reunification, someone wrote Wir sind unschuldig on the pedestal.
