Marvin Hall is a limestone building at 1465 Jayhawk Boulevard on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence. State Architect John F. Stanton designed it in Oread limestone, and it opened in 1909 at what was then the western edge of campus. It is named for Frank O. Marvin, the first dean of engineering, and for his father, the third chancellor James Marvin.
Engineering and architecture programs began here. Goldwyn Goldsmith became the first head of the architecture department in 1913, and the architecture faculty stayed after Learned Hall took over engineering in 1963. The school is now the School of Architecture and Design.
Gould Evans Associates of Lawrence renovated the hall for $2.8 million, adding studios, classrooms and offices. In 2014 students in Studio 804 built the glass-clad Marvin Hall Forum, a $2.1 million addition with a 120-seat presentation area.
