The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial stands in West Potomac Park at the northwest corner of the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. ROMA Design Group of San Francisco designed it, Ed Jackson Jr. was executive architect, and the sculptor Lei Yixin carved the central figure. The foundation developed it and the National Park Service administers it. The article names no style, though the Commission of Fine Arts raised concerns about its Social Realist style.

Construction began in December 2009. The memorial opened to the public on August 22, 2011, and its dedication was postponed to October 16, 2011. The site covers 4 acres. The Stone of Hope is 30 feet (9.1 m) high, and a crescent inscription wall 450 feet long carries fourteen quotations.

Two granite pieces form the Mountain of Despair. The article's sources conflict on the granite's color. It gives no hours.
