The Mariinsky Theatre Second Stage stands next to the original 1860 Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, part of a complex that includes the 2007 Concert Hall. Dominique Perrault won the 2003 competition, but his contract ended in 2007 after code and cost problems, and a new competition followed in 2009. Diamond Schmitt Architects finished the design, with local partner KB ViPS. A gala concert on May 2, 2013 celebrated the opening.

The theatre seats 1,830. Diamond Schmitt created an illuminated onyx wall visible from outside. A 118-foot (36 m) structural glass stair was the first in a public building in Russia, and a 100-ton spiral staircase hangs from the ceiling. The article names no style.

The Russian government paid the full budget, put at 295 million euros, up from early estimates of 244 million dollars. The article gives no hours.
