The Manhattan Municipal Building, renamed for David N. Dinkins in 2015, was designed by William M. Kendall of McKim, Mead & White after a 1907 competition, for New York City. Construction began on July 17, 1909, and the lead gives completion as 1914. Offices were first occupied in mid-1913, and interiors were finished in 1916.
The infobox lists a mixture of Ancient Roman, Beaux-Arts and Renaissance styles. The lead gives 40 stories and 580 feet (180 m), but the text counts 34 stories, with the main structure about 349 feet (106 m) high. The facade is granite with terracotta above the 23rd floor, and a central arch is modeled on the Palazzo Farnese entrance.
Adolph Weinman's gilded copper statue Civic Fame, 25 feet (7.6 m) tall, crowns the tower. The Chambers Street subway station lies beneath the base. After granite fell from the facade in 1987, restoration followed, and Civic Fame was regilded in 1991.
