Mamayev Kurgan is a memorial hill in Volgograd, formerly Stalingrad, in southern Russia. It honors the Battle of Stalingrad, fought from July 1942 to February 1943. The hill changed hands several times, and Soviet defenders held it until relief arrived on January 26, 1943.

Yevgeny Vuchetich was the sculptor. The complex was built from 1959 to 1967, when the statue was installed. The Motherland Calls stands 171 feet (52 meters) tall, or 279 feet (85 meters) from feet to the tip of its sword, which is 89 feet (27 meters) long.

Visitors climb through stages by stairs. The Hall of Military Glory has a circular main chamber and an Eternal Flame. A Square of Heroes and a Mother's Sorrow monument stand at the base. The site is open 24 hours a day and free to enter. The article names no architectural style.
