The Malmö City Library stands on Regementsgatan and has three buildings. The Castle, by John Smedberg and Fredrik Sundbärg, draws on Danish and southern Swedish Renaissance castles and was originally built for Malmö Museum. The Calendar of Light, the new building, is by the Danish architect Henning Larsen. The Cylinder links the two and houses the entrance, information desk and cafe.

The library opened on December 12, 1905 in Hotel Tunneln and moved to the Castle in 1946. The Calendar of Light was inaugurated on May 31, 1997, and the restored Castle re-opened on September 24, 1999. The article gives no construction dates or materials.

It holds about 550,000 media items and was the first Swedish library to lend video games, in 2006.
