Makkah Masjid is the main mosque of Hyderabad's Old City. Muhammad Qutb Shah, sixth Qutb Shahi ruler of Golconda, laid the foundation stone, and the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb completed it. Work ran from 1617 to 1694 with about 8,000 workers. The infobox lists the style as Indo-Islamic and Qutb Shahi, and the article names no architect. It says the mosque is built wholly of finely cut stone, though the infobox gives granite and bricks.
The prayer hall is about 226 by 180 feet (69 by 55 m), with a ceiling 75 feet (23 m) high and five open arches on the facade. The infobox says it holds 10,000 worshippers. Bricks for the central arch were made with soil from Mecca. The Asaf Jahi tombs were added in 1914.
A bomb exploded during Friday prayers in 2007, killing at least sixteen people.
