Mainz Cathedral was ordered by Archbishop Willigis, and the article names no architect for the original build. Later figures include Franz Ignaz Michael Neumann, who designed the roof in 1769, Georg Moller for the iron cupola and Pierre Cuypers for restoration. The infobox gives 975 to 1009 and a dedication on August 29, 1009, while the text says the main body was complete by 1036.

The infobox lists Romanesque for the original, Gothic for the chapels and bell towers and Baroque for the roof. The cathedral is mainly sandstone, with limestone in 12th-century work. The central nave is 92 feet (28 m) high.

A fire broke out on the day of inauguration in 1009, and another in 1081. Allied bombing damaged it in August 1942, and restoration was completed in 1975. It is an active Roman Catholic cathedral and the seat of the Bishop of Mainz. The article gives no hours.
