The Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence was built by Benci di Cione and Simone di Francesco Talenti, possibly following a design by Jacopo di Cione. It was once wrongly attributed to Orcagna. The article names no client. It was built to house assemblies and public ceremonies, such as the swearing-in of the Gonfaloniere of Justice. The text gives 1376 to 1382.
The article describes a lively design that contrasts with the severe Palazzo Vecchio, with three tall, wide arches on cluster columns with Corinthian capitals. It uses stone columns and facade trefoils with blue enameled backgrounds. The sculptures are marble and bronze. It gives no dimensions.
Cosimo I used it to house his German mercenary pikemen, which gave it the name Lanzi. Buontalenti turned the roof into a Medici terrace, and the Medici Lions arrived in 1789. It is now an open-air sculpture gallery of antique and Renaissance art. The article gives no hours.
