Liverpool Cathedral on St James's Mount was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, chosen in 1903 from 103 entries. Frederick Thomas succeeded Scott in 1960, though a Guardian obituary says Richard Gilbert Scott completed it. The Cathedral Committee was the client, and construction ran from 1904 to 1978.
The infobox says Gothic Revival, and the text says Scott later dropped much Gothic detail for a more modern, monumental style. It is built of pinkish-red sandstone from Woolton quarry, with later sections using close matches. The external length is 619 feet (188.67 m), the internal length 480 feet (150 m) and the tower 331 feet (100.8 m).
The Lady Chapel was consecrated in 1910 and the cathedral in 1924. A completion service was held in October 1978. It replaced St Peter's pro-cathedral, demolished in 1922. It is open daily from 8:00 to 18:00 with free admission and a suggested £5 donation.
