The Lincoln Tomb in Springfield, Illinois was designed by the sculptor Larkin Goldsmith Mead, with William Saunders designing the landscaping. The National Lincoln Monument Association organized the fundraising and oversaw construction. Work began about 1868 and finished in 1874. The State of Illinois acquired it in 1895. A granite obelisk 117 feet (36 m) tall rises over a base reached by four flights of balustraded stairs. Four bronze statues at the corners represent Civil War infantry, navy, artillery and cavalry. The interior rotunda has 16 marble pilasters and a bronze prototype of Daniel Chester French's Lincoln statue.
Lincoln's remains were moved several times, including in 1876 after a failed theft attempt. The interior was rebuilt in Art Deco style in 1930 and 1931. It became a National Historic Landmark in 1960. The article gives no hours.
