The Lincoln Memorial at the western end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C. was designed by Henry Bacon, with Daniel Chester French as sculptor. A Lincoln Memorial Commission oversaw the project. Groundbreaking was on February 12, 1914, and construction started the following month. It was dedicated on May 30, 1922.
The text calls the style neoclassical, and the infobox says Greek Revival. The exterior is Colorado Yule marble, the statue Georgia white marble, the pedestal Tennessee marble and the ceiling panels Alabama marble. The memorial measures 189.7 by 118.5 feet and stands 99 feet tall, with 36 Doric columns 44 feet high.
Marian Anderson sang there in 1939, and Martin Luther King Jr. gave his I Have a Dream speech there on August 28, 1963. It is open 24 hours a day. An undercroft museum opened on June 25, 2026, with free admission and fee-based timed-entry reservations.
