Palacio Libertad stands at Sarmiento 151 in Buenos Aires. Norbert Maillart designed it from 1889 and left in 1911, and his chief assistant Jacques Spolsky then supervised construction and reengineered the design. Building ran from 1908 to 1928, and it opened as the Central Post Office. The article calls the style eclectic, drawing mainly on French Second Empire.
It reopened as a cultural center in May 2015. The new additions use glass and stainless steel, contrasting with the original Beaux-Arts ornament. Steel-reinforced concrete forms the structure, supported by 2,882 steel pillars sunk 10 meters into bedrock.
The Sala Sinfónica seats 1,950 and has a Klais organ with about 8,000 pipes. It was renamed in October 2024. Admission is free.
