Lawrence Hall stands at 1150 Franklin Boulevard on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene. It grew from several buildings, including the 1901 Mechanical Hall by Edgar M. Lazarus and the 1914 Architecture Building by William Christmas Knighton. The university named it for Ellis F. Lawrence, the dean and campus planner, in 1957 or 1958.
In 1923 Lawrence added a bay window and ambulatory, a second floor over the north wing, and stucco for a uniform Mediterranean look. His arts wing was destroyed in 1955. Two wings were added on the north in 1941, and Annand, Boone and Lei's modernistic replacement wing was dedicated in April 1958.
Campbell Yost Grube Hall designed a Brutalist addition in 1971 with exposed concrete formwork and well-lit studios. BOOR/A added the Architecture and Allied Arts Library in 1991 and changed the south facade.
