The Laguna Garzón Bridge crosses the Laguna Garzón in Uruguay, connecting the Rocha and Maldonado departments. Rafael Viñoly Architects designed it. The article names no formal client. The Argentinian developer Eduardo Costantini provided about 10 million of the 11 million dollar cost. Construction began in September 2014, and it opened on December 22, 2015.
The bridge is known for its unusual circular shape. Two-lane traffic splits into separate one-way half-circles near the start and rejoins near the end, which is reported to slow traffic. Narrower lanes reduce how long any part of the water is shaded. It is built of 450 tons of steel, 500 cubic meters of concrete and 40,000 meters of cable.
Vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles can cross, with up to about 1,000 vehicles a day. It replaced a two-vehicle ferry that only ran in daylight and good weather.
