The Los Angeles County Museum of Art stands on a 20-acre (8.1 ha) campus at 5905 Wilshire Boulevard. William Pereira's three-building complex opened in 1965 and was demolished in 2020. Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer added the 115,000-square-foot (10,700 m²) Anderson Building in 1986. Renzo Piano designed the entry pavilion and the Broad Contemporary Art Museum, which opened on February 16, 2008. Chris Burden's Urban Light, made of 202 cast-iron street lights, stands at the entrance.
Peter Zumthor and Skidmore, Owings and Merrill designed the David Geffen Galleries. They have one glass-enclosed level of sand-colored concrete, with an arm extending over Wilshire Boulevard. The galleries opened to the public on May 4, 2026, after cost estimates of $600 million to $750 million.
Rem Koolhaas proposed a plan in 2004, but it was never built.
