La Monnaie in Brussels began as a theater built from 1695 to 1700 by Paolo and Pietro Bezzi, though the text names Gio Paolo Bombarda as its architect. Louis Damesme designed the 1819 neoclassical building, and Joseph Poelaert led the 1856 reconstruction. Elector Maximilian II Emanuel of Bavaria was the client. The infobox gives an opening on October 17, 1700, but the text says the first performance date is unknown and the earliest documented show is November 19, 1700.

The article calls the 1819 style Neoclassical and the 1856 style eclectic neo-Baroque, neo-Rococo and neo-Renaissance. It lists gilded carton-pierre, red velvet and brocade. Seating is 1,152 in the infobox, 1,200 in 1856 and 1,125 after 1986.

A fire struck in 1855, and the theater reopened in 1856. The roofline was raised by 13 feet (4 m) in the 1985 to 1986 renovation. It is the opera house of the National Opera of Belgium. The article gives no hours.
